Anstruther - The Scottish Fisheries Museum - There is full wheelchair access throughout the Museum. Accessible to Shop Accessible Toilets The Scottish Fisheries Museum is situated in Anstruther, in the old Kingdom of Fife, overlooking the ancient fishing harbour. It is at the heart of the East Neuk fishing villages of St Monans, Pittenweem, Cellardyke and Crail, the centre of local crab and lobster fishing. Argyll - Cruachan Power Station - Cruachan Visitor Centre is disabled friendly, the centre is on one level As you can imagine a power station inside the mountain Ben Cruachan is difficult to make disabled friendly but new coaches and lifts are being introduced to make this possible for 2005. Aviemore - The Strathspey Railway - All the Railway Stations are accessible - there is level access at both Boat of Garten and Broomhill while at Aviemore there is ramped access from the car park/drop off point. Space is limited - at present 4 Wheelchair passengers can be accommodated in the up-graded the Guards Van at any one time and a window space cannot be guaranteed. It is adviseable to contact us in advance for directions and confirmation that there is space available. Berkshire - Savill Garden - Windsor Great Park - The garden, restaurant and shop are accessible for wheelchair users. Berkshire - Wellington Country Park - Disabled friendly but we do have gravel paths around the Park. Disabled Toilets Fishing Platform Nature Trail for the Disabled Only an hour from London, and near to Reading and Basingstoke, Wellington Country Park is a perfect choice for the whole family. Intriguing and original, the world-famous Bekonscot Model Village continues to delight and fascinate our visitors - there is so much to see! Buckinghamshire Railway Centre - Much of the Centre is ?wheelchair friendly? with level access to main museum, refreshment room, shop and disabled toilets. Pathways on the 25 acre site are smooth and give easy access to most parts but there is restricted access to the workshops. Similarly access to railway carriages for train rides is not possible for wheelchairs. The Centre boasts one of the largest private railway collections in the country with many steam locomotives from express passenger types to the humble shunting engine, as well as numerous interesting items of rolling stock. These include a coach from the Royal Train of 1901 and another used by Winston Churchill and General Eisenhower for wartime planning meetings in 1944. Cambridge - Imperial War Museum Duxford - Duxford aims to maximise the enjoyment of visitors with special needs. Cheshire - Stapeley Water Gardens Limited - All area are level throughout. Cornwall - Crealy Great Adventure Park The Park can be easily accessed by wheelchair-users or those with limited mobility. Cornwall - Newquay Zoo - Disabled facilities Easy car parking Disabled Toilets Free wheel chair (Please book in advance) Fairly level site, assistance available if required. Around 85% of the Zoo is fully accessible We do arrange special tours for groups of 10 or more There is always something new at Newquay Zoo. Explore the new rainforest exhibit in the zoos tropical house where you will discover a whole world of exotic animals. Water cascades down the ancient temple walls to the pools filled with tropical fish. Spot the iguanas, sloths and flying fox bats and explore the mini beasts room featuring a new Arrow Poison Frog enclosure. Amongst the sub-tropical lakeside gardens live hundreds of animals from all around the world ranging from small rare monkeys to shy red pandas. Look out for meerkats on sentry duty, penguins playing in their pool and glimpse the strange and endangered lemurs and fossa. Other highlights of the day include feeding time talks and the animal encounters where you can meet keepers and some of the animals. Cornwall - Pencarrow -Disabled access: The ground floor of the House is accessible for wheelchairs. If you cannot walk up the stairs, which are shallow but quite long, your admission price is halved. We have a tape recording of the upstairs tour, which you can listen to and then rejoin your tour as they come back downstairs. There is at least one chair in each room if you cannot stand for long. Parking: For disabled and those unable to walk far is just outside the House Entrance. A ramp can be provided for the few steps into the House. For the Tea rooms you may park just outside. Garden Facilities: Wheelchair Access: The paths are hard and mostly level but the Gardens are listed and old, so we ask for your understanding that it is not all tarmac! There are gentle slopes on the walk to the American Gardens but wheelchair users with strong arms or motors have said it is worth the effort! There are 2 ramps onto and off the grass on the East Lawn. There are steps around the garden. We have a leaflet at the house or Craft Gallery which shows you where these are. The tea rooms and craft gallery are both wheelchair friendly. Toilets: Toilets are situated near the tea rooms and there is a toilet suitable for disabled use. There is also a baby-changing mat in the ladies toilet. Cornwall - The Eden Project - Accessibility: We want to be open to the widest possible audience and, though we think we have done pretty well so far, we have many plans in progress to get even better. The place was built with gentle slopes on the paths but remember it is huge, so a visit can be tiring, especially for the elderly or those in wheelchairs... and their pushers! We have 50 wheelchairs available but have been advised not to loan out battery powered vehicles - you are welcome to bring your own though and will be able to access virtually the whole site. We have three play areas designed to cater for different age groups and abilities: two (for toddlers and older children) are constructed of wood with swings, slides and various climbing frames. The other has been specifically designed (with funding from a local group Play for All) for wheelchair users with swings and a roundabout. Hertfordshire - Hatfield House - Visitors with disabilities are most welcome to Hatfield House and to its Great Park and famous formal gardens. Humberside - The Deep - The Deep is a modern contemporary building designed to provide access for all. The tour starts on the 3rd floor which can be reached by lift or staircase. A series of ramps gradually descends through the attraction and the one short flight of stairs can be bypassed by a lift. There are toilets on all floors, including a wheelchair friendly cubicle. Wheelchairs can be borrowed from reception on a first come first served basis. There are audio tours for those who find this an easier form of listening and a recently introduced tactile guide. Thirteen free disabled parking bays are located by the front door. The attraction has 2 cafes overlooking the River Humber plus 5 picnic benches alongside the river outside. Inverness-shire - The Tomatin Distillery Co Limited - There is wheelchair access to all the areas Isle of Wight - Blackgang Chine - Suitable for wheelchair users, if accompanied by carers, tarmac paths wind their way round the 40 acres of Victorian gardens, now themed into different imaginative themed areas Blackgang has an atmosphere of magic and fantasy, maybe because of the strong lay-lines that are said to cross its geography, maybe because of its constant battle with erosion, as its cliffs fall into the sea at a steady 2-3 metres per year or maybe because generations of families keep returning to the park. Leeds - Thackray Museum - Provision for Disabled Visitors The Thackray Museum strongly believes in access for all and was designed to ensure that disabled visitors were catered for. TravelThe museum has a car park with spaces reserved for orange badge holders and the car park is situated next to the museum entrance. There is a dropped kerb and the approach to the museum is level. The bus stop is situated approximately 100 yards from the museum. Admission Normal admission charges apply, but essential carers are admitted free of charge. In the MuseumThe museum exhibitions are spread over 2,500m2 on two floors. There is a lift to all floors, and seating throughout the galleries. All areas of the museum are accessible to wheelchair users and space for wheelchair users can be reserved in the conference centre auditorium. There are two wheelchairs available for loan for any person who may require the use of one. This includes the elderly and those visitors with walking difficulties. Audio tapes are held at reception and can be used by the visually impaired to assist in their visit. The tapes play an audible version of the text, which is displayed in all the ground floor galleries. The tapes are re-charged regularly and are always re-wound ready for use. Text sheets are also available from reception for people with hearing difficulties. The sheets correspond to any part of the visitor tour which contains audible materials, for example Interactive TV screens and videos. Many areas of the museum also contain objects, displays and activities which can be touched and handled to enhance the visitor experience. Toilets Fully accessible toilets are located on the ground floor next to the lift, and on the first floor in the entrance to the conference centre. Caf? and CateringThe caf? is accessible to all disabled visitors and an at table waitress service can be offered to disabled visitors if they require this facility. We are also able to cater for special dietary requirements if visitors contact us in advance. London - Royal Air Force Museum - The Royal Air Force Museum is FREE to enter and has easy access for all visitors, with lifts, wide spaced walkways and wheelchairs which can be booked in advance. Helpful staff are also available on hand to assist with almost anything. Take off to the Royal Air Force Museum and soar through the history of aviation from the earliest balloon flights to the latest Eurofighter. Gaze at a world-class collection of over 100 aircraft, aviation/wartime memorabilia and artefacts together with an awe inspiring sound and light show that takes you back in time to the Battle of Britain. London - South London Gallery - SLG has wheelchair access throughout its public spaces including a ramped entrance, a wheelchair lift to the main gallery and disabled toilets. The South London Gallery shows the work of mid-career British artists, and emerging and established international artists, in an annual programme of contemporary art exhibitions, live art and off-site projects complemented by workshops, events, artists? talks and outreach projects. London - United Kingdom Parliament - The Tour is wheelchair accessible; one carer is admitted for free. Middlesex - Kew Bridge Steam Museum - Approximately 80% of the museum is accessible to wheelchair users via ramped flooring or a lift. There is level access from the car park to the museum shop and reception area. Access to the 90" Cornish Beam Engine house is difficult, with two flights of steps. Our railway carriage now has a wheelchair accessible compartment, enabling rides on our railway. There is a wheelchair accessible toilet adjacent to the museum car park, which requires a Radar key which is held at the museum reception. Two manual wheelchairs are available for loan to visitors, during their visit. These can be pre-booked by contacting the museum, giving your name and date of visit. The Museum is planning to upgrade our facilities still further for the disabled during this year. Visually impaired visitors A large print brief guide to the museum is available, priced 50 pence. Guide dogs are welcome throughout the museum. Pre-booked touch tours can be arranged but require two weeks notice to ensure one of our specially trained volunteers is available. Somerset - Fleet Air Arm Museum The main entrance to the museum is up a flight of stairs. We realise that not everyone will be able to use this entrance, so there is a ground floor entrance to the left of the main staircase for visitors in wheelchairs or any others who have limited mobility/disability, and for families with young children in pushchairs. 95% of the museum is accessible to people in wheelchairs. The exceptions being the interior of Concorde 002, the 'Brush with War' and Merlin Experience Gallery in Hall 2. The museum has several wheelchairs for visitors to use - free of charge. The site is set on sloping ground, with steep slopes in places. Access around the site is on rural surfaces, mainly rolled or loose chippings, in keeping with the nature of the site and buildings. Some roads and paths are cobbled and their surfaces may cause some difficulty for visitors who use a wheelchair or have impaired mobility We suggest that, if possible, visitors using wheelchairs should use those with wide tyres as this makes access easier and smoother. The use of a powered wheelchair or four-wheeled mobility scooter allows access to the majority of the open areas of the site. A number (but not all) of the main buildings are accessible to wheelchair users as ramps are available for people to get inside the houses. The Museum has lots of seats around the site, which cater for visitors who tire easily or need to take things more slowly to enjoy the Museum at a more leisurely pace. Set in 50 acres of beautiful Sussex countryside is a very special place to wander amongst a fascinating collection of nearly 50 historic buildings dating from the 13th to the 19th century, many with period gardens, together with farm animals, woodland walks and a picturesque lake. Warwickshire - Twycross Zoo - Disabled Facilities available Toilets for the Disabled Accessible Shop All areas are accessible to wheelchairs The Leading Primate Zoo in the Country Twycross Zoo opened in 1963 on a site in Leicestershire. Initially a comparatively modest collection, it has grown into one of the major British zoos, attracting over 450,000 visitors a year. It is famous for its collection of primates. Museum is disabled friendly The Museum was opened in 1982 with exhibits depicting 70 years of military aviation in Sussex, with special emphasis on the RAF at Tangmere and the air war over southern England from 1939 to 1945. The Museum has an intimate atmosphere lacking in many other museums of this kind; perhaps this is due to the enthusiasm of the volunteers who run the museum - many of whom were wartime RAF pilots, navigators and groundcrew.
